Usage Questions
Do not use a high-pressure water gun to wash your Surron. When washing, avoid direct flushing of the plug and wire installation locations, and avoid direct flushing of gaps in the bearings and other rotating parts.
Regularly check tire wear and air pressure, check the wear of brake pads and discs, and pay attention to whether the chain has sufficient lubrication. It is recommended to send your Surron to an authorized dealer for a comprehensive inspection at least every six months.
The Surron is designed with certain waterproof capabilities. It is recommended that the wading depth should not exceed the motor, and the chain and bearings need to be maintained in time after riding in water.
Protection functions include brake power-off protection, dumping power-off protection, side bracket power-off protection, over-current protection, over-voltage protection, over-temperature protection, over-charge protection, over-discharge protection, stall protection, and handlebar overrun protection. Different models may have different protection functions. The actual model shall prevail.
The E setting can be adjusted in the instrument. There are six sliding power recovery levels from 0 to 5.
You can set the B value in the instrument, with six brake assist strength levels from 0 to 5.
It is recommended to use your Surron within the range of 0 degrees C to 40 degrees C. Temperatures too high or too low can easily damage the battery or activate the protection function.
In the fully charged state, in order to protect the battery, the program turns off both sliding kinetic energy recovery and braking kinetic energy recovery. When the battery power drops to an appropriate level, these functions will automatically resume.
It is recommended to contact your authorized Surron dealer in time.
It is recommended to stop using your Surron immediately and contact your authorized Surron dealer.
The Surron has a tilting power-off function. Large jumps may cause the sensor swing to be too large and trigger the power-off protection function. It will return to normal after restarting.
The Surron features Surron's self-developed off-road traction controller system. There is an ASR activation switch on the back of the left combination switch. Press it to temporarily activate ASR control. Click three times in succession to turn the ASR function on or off. There is an R/S button on the front of the left combination switch. Click this button once to display the current ASR intervention level, and double-click to quickly switch the ASR intervention level.
Check the distance between the front and rear wheel speed sensors and the wheel speed encoder. Too large a gap will cause the wheel speed sensor to be unable to recognise the wheel speed signal. Incorrectly modified tires may also cause abnormal wheel speed signals.
You can order original Surron spare parts through your authorized Surron dealer or visit sur-ron.co.nz for more information.
Under normal ambient temperature, the charging time for the battery pack is approximately 4.5 hours. The power should be turned off immediately after full charging. This Surron uses a high-performance high-rate battery pack, which can be used in the ambient temperature range of -20 degrees C to 50 degrees C. The best performance is achieved when the ambient temperature is 10 to 30 degrees C. If the ambient temperature is too low or too high, it will affect battery pack performance and service life. Please do not use it at temperatures beyond the allowable range. Do not charge the battery below 0 degrees C.
The Surron has a reverse function. In the READY state, long press the R/S button of the left combination switch and turn the throttle. The reverse speed will be adjusted according to the throttle opening.
If this is caused by high temperature in the brake system from strenuous riding, it will recover automatically after cooling. In other cases, please stop riding immediately and contact your authorized Surron dealer.
Modification Questions
The original handlebar uses a 28.5mm installation specification. Please choose an off-road motorcycle handlebar. If you modify it yourself, please make sure you fully understand the risks of modification.
The original off-road tire sizes are 80/100x19 and 90/90x19. The original reinforced off-road rear wheel set is optional. If you modify it yourself, please make sure you fully understand the risks associated with modification.
It is strictly prohibited to modify the original frame, swingarm, power system, battery, controller, and motor. Any such modifications will automatically void the manufacturer's warranty and the risk will be borne by the user.
Fault Questions
First, switch the instrument to the TRIP display state and check the fault code. In addition to the brake power-off protection, throttle overrun protection, and side stand power-off protection, it is recommended to have your Surron checked by an authorized dealer.
Unless the battery is flat or the key is not turned on, it is recommended to have your Surron tested by an authorized dealer.
It is recommended that you save the fault code table to your phone. After a fault occurs, the fault code can be read to understand the fault status immediately. Some fault states can be resolved through simple processing or self-recovery. If the fault cannot be resolved, please contact your authorized Surron dealer immediately.

Check whether the discs and brake pads are contaminated with oil. If the issue cannot be resolved, please visit your authorized Surron dealer.
Please contact your authorized Surron dealer immediately for inspection. It may be that there is insufficient oil in the brake master cylinder, or there may be oil leakage from the master cylinder piston.
Check the tire wear. If the tire has been stored for too long, the rubber will age. It is recommended to replace the tire after one year regardless of whether it has been used or not. Excessive air pressure will also cause a decrease in grip. Please ensure that the air pressure is within the appropriate range (different tires have different tire pressure ranges). Different ground conditions and temperatures will also greatly affect tire friction.
Check whether the spokes are loose and whether the wheel axle is locked as specified. Check whether the bearings are severely worn and whether there are any abnormalities in the tires.
Check the condition of the belt. The synchronising teeth of the belt may be damaged or the belt may be broken.
Make sure the chain is properly lubricated and check each link for deformation or damage.
Replace damaged spokes and have the spokes re-tensioned by a professional.
Check whether both sides of the front fork are parallel. Loosen spring preload, turn down compression damping, and perform maintenance on schedule.
Check whether the pivot point of the rear shock absorber linkage moves freely and relax the spring preload, but do not allow the spring to become loose. Turn down the compression damping and perform maintenance on time.
Check whether there is friction with foreign objects on the exterior. If the sound comes from the suspension itself, please visit your authorized Surron dealer for inspection as soon as possible.
After confirming there are no other sources of oil stains, please visit your authorized Surron dealer for inspection as soon as possible. A thin oil film on the inner suspension tube is normal. Please take note of the distinction.
Check whether the battery compartment cover is damaged and whether the rubber pad is missing or displaced. When everything is normal, make sure there is sufficient pre-pressure on the battery when the battery compartment cover is locked.
Turn off the key, lift the Surron, check whether the front fork legs are parallel, check whether the handlebars are aligned or deformed, check whether the brake lever angle has changed, check whether the braking function is normal, check whether the brake disc and chain disc are deformed, and check whether the footpegs and bracket are damaged or deformed. Check whether the throttle handle is damaged or operating smoothly, and finally turn on the key to check whether the Surron is working properly.
Loosen all the fastening screws of the front fork upper clamp, remove the upper clamp, tighten the headset bearing tightening bolt, ensure that the headset gap is zero and there is no obvious damping in the steering rotation, and then reinstall the upper clamp. Tighten the upper clamp bolt to 40N.m and then tighten the front fork pinch bolt to 13N.m.
Stop using the Surron immediately, check whether the brake lever is deformed, check the wear of the brake pads and discs, check whether the brake fluid is leaking, and observe the fluid level through the reservoir sight glass. If you cannot determine the cause, please visit your authorized Surron dealer as soon as possible.
Check whether the throttle is positioned too far inward, causing friction between the throttle and the handlebar end, and whether there is any foreign matter between the throttle and the handlebar.
First, check whether the GPS IoT card account is in arrears. Please contact your authorized Surron dealer or visit sur-ron.co.nz for assistance.
Daily Maintenance
When not using your Surron for a long time, please charge the battery pack to approximately 60 to 80% capacity for storage, and check the remaining capacity every month. When the capacity drops below 30%, charge the battery pack to avoid it losing activity and affecting performance, which can cause damage.
Warning: It is prohibited to charge the battery pack below 0 degrees C, otherwise the battery pack will be damaged. Wait until the battery pack temperature rises above 0 degrees C before charging. The maximum allowable charging temperature inside the battery pack is 60 degrees C. If the internal temperature exceeds this, it will not charge until it cools below 60 degrees C. If the battery pack has recently been discharged rapidly due to heavy riding, the internal temperature may still be above 60 degrees C even if the ambient temperature is lower. Never short-circuit the outlet when cleaning the battery pack. Always charge the battery pack in a well-ventilated location away from flammable materials. The battery pack can only be charged with a special charger that matches the original Surron or is specified by the manufacturer. The use of unapproved chargers or accessories may cause damage or malfunction of the battery pack, or even cause danger. The battery pack is only allowed to return to normal temperature naturally. It is prohibited to use other methods to heat or cool the battery pack.
Warning: The battery pack may not be charged immediately after outputting high power or working under high temperature conditions. The battery pack should cool down for 30 minutes or more before charging begins, as the battery management system prohibits charging when the internal temperature is high. Otherwise, the life of the battery pack will be shortened. If the appearance of the battery pack is found to be damaged, if an unusual odour is detected during charging, if the battery pack becomes excessively hot, or if it still does not show as fully charged after a long time, please stop charging immediately, disconnect the power supply, and contact your authorized Surron dealer.
Do not use high-pressure water guns to wash the Surron. When washing, avoid direct flushing of the plugs and wires, and avoid direct flushing of the gaps in the bearings and other rotating parts. Please use a regular-pressure hose, combined with a brush, a cloth, and a neutral detergent. Clean with detergent and lubricate the chain immediately after cleaning and drying.
Regularly check tire wear and air pressure, check the wear of brake pads and discs, pay attention to whether the chain has sufficient lubrication, and ensure the steering and connecting rod components are lubricated. It is recommended to send your Surron to an authorized dealer for a comprehensive inspection at least every six months.
The original belt can be used for more than 15,000 kilometres under ideal conditions. Considering the unpredictability of usage scenarios, it is recommended to inspect it every 500 kilometres and replace it every year. If used extensively off-road, it should be inspected after every ride and replaced every six months.
Please tighten the chain tension appropriately to ensure that the free movement of the chain is 1 to 2 cm.
With regular maintenance and lubrication, the chain has a long service life. The chain will gradually stretch with wear during use, so it is necessary to adjust the position of the rear wheel to maintain correct chain tension. The up-and-down movement range of the chain should be adjusted according to the requirements of your specific model.
It is strictly forbidden to use a high-pressure water gun to flush the battery pack, and do not submerge the battery pack in water. Do not ride through water deeper than the centre of the wheel, as this may cause water intrusion into the battery pack, internal short circuit, and permanent failure of the battery pack. Use a cloth with a small amount of clean water to clean the battery pack casing.

Tool Usage
When using fastening tools, ensure the tool fully engages the fastener. A larger wrench requires one hand to stabilise the tool to prevent slipping.
Percussion tools are only used as an auxiliary tool for installation. It is strictly forbidden to directly strike parts. If direct contact is required, protect the part with a softer material pad.
Torque wrenches are precision tools that must be operated in strict accordance with the instructions for use. Ensure the accuracy of torque readings at all times.
Pay attention to selecting power tools with appropriate torque. High-torque electric wrenches can easily damage bolts or parts during operation.
It is strictly prohibited to use high-torque electric wrenches to fasten bolts and nuts of smaller sizes (10mm and below).
When tightening large bolts and nuts, power tools should only be used for quick pre-tightening. A torque wrench should be used for final tightening to ensure the correct torque is achieved.
Pay attention to the difference between mineral brake fluid and DOT brake fluid systems. Tools and fluid products cannot be mixed between systems.

Check whether the suspension is functioning correctly.
Check whether there is any foreign matter on the suspension inner tube. Keep the inner tube clean and intact in appearance.
Check the dust seal for large amounts of oil leakage.
Check the outer tube and other components for damage.
Do not disassemble the suspension on your Surron. Follow these steps to lubricate your suspension and keep it in top condition:
Remove the protective cover.
Clean dust from the surface of the fork tube (dirt, old lubricant, etc.).
Apply special suspension lubricant to the front inner tube surface and spread it evenly.
Warning:
It is strictly prohibited to spray directly upward against the front suspension dust seal lip or rear suspension dust seal. This will cause sediment to enter the oil seal lips and cause wear and oil leakage.
Do not use soluble or corrosive solvents for cleaning, as these will damage the dust seal. It is recommended to use a neutral detergent and soft cotton cloth for cleaning.
Suspension components contain high-pressure gas or liquid.
Do not attempt to tamper with or disassemble the suspension.
Protect the cylinder from impact, high temperature, or open flame.
After riding, the suspension and gas cylinders may be in a high temperature state. Please avoid burns.
The chain should be cleaned of dirt after each ride. To maintain proper lubrication, apply a specific chain lubricant.
Regularly check the condition of the chain. Place the Surron on a stand so that it is supported from the bottom bracket area and the rear wheel is suspended. After rotating the rear wheel a certain distance, use a chain wear measuring tool to check the wear condition of the chain. If there is significant wear, replace the chain with a new one.
Regularly check the chain tension. Lift the middle of the lower chain run and check visually or with a ruler whether the up and down movement is within 10 to 25mm. If it is outside this range, please adjust the chain immediately.
- After removing the key and turning off the emergency shutdown switch, use a stand to prop up the Surron so that the rear wheel is suspended in the air.
- Loosen the rear axle nut C.
- Loosen the lock nut A of the left and right adjustment bolt B.
- Adjust the left and right adjusting bolts B equally until the chain is within the specified range.
- Tighten the rear axle nut C.
- Tighten the left and right lock nuts A to fix the position of the adjusting bolt B.
- Take a test ride.
- After the test ride, please recheck whether the chain is adjusted correctly and readjust if necessary.
Note: When adjusting the chain, please adjust the adjusting bolts on both sides equally.
Tools required: waterproof gloves, bucket, spray bottle, brush, cloth, warm water, soap, degreasing cleaner, neutral cleaner, motorcycle chain lubricant.
Place the Surron on a stand so that it is supported from the bottom bracket area and the rear wheel is in the air.
Use a brush and a spray bottle (filled with clean water or neutral detergent) to thoroughly clean large dirt deposits from the chain.
Apply degreasing cleaner to the lower chain run, and wipe the chain clean with a cloth when finished.
Apply motorcycle chain lubricant at the rear sprocket entry point of the lower chain run. A small amount is sufficient and the chain should not be soaked. Then slowly rotate the rear wheel forward to allow the chain lubricant to pass through the entire chain, ensuring that the rollers and link connectors are coated. When applying chain lubricant, avoid contaminating the braking system.
Check the front and rear sprockets for wear. The images below show the shape of correct teeth and worn teeth. If the sprocket is in poor condition, it should be replaced.
Check whether the tires are damaged by foreign objects before each ride.
Regularly check the tire tread depth. When the tread is worn to the wear indicator line, replace the tire immediately.
Tire pressure checks must be performed when the tires have cooled down. Do not check tire pressure within a few hours of riding.
It is recommended that the tire pressure be set to 225kPa for the front and rear wheels on paved roads, and 100 to 150kPa for the front and rear wheels on unpaved roads.
Note:
Riding with incorrect tire pressure can cause:
- Unexpected damage
- Loss of control
- Premature wear
- Pinch flats and punctures
Place the Surron on a stand so that it is supported from the bottom bracket area.
Confirm that the wheel rotates freely and check for lateral or longitudinal oscillation. If oscillation occurs, measure the movement with an auxiliary tool. If it exceeds 1.5mm, check whether the rim is deformed or the bearing is damaged. If the rim is in good condition, check whether the tire is correctly seated on the rim.
If the rim is undamaged but sits at an angle from vertical, the swingarm may be bent or misaligned.
If there is a noticeable difference in spoke tension, check and adjust using a spoke tension tool.
Make sure the spoke tension is correct or the Surron may become unstable. Use a spoke tension tool to check that all spokes are correctly tensioned. If any spoke is loose, tighten it and check the condition of the rim and hub.
Every time you ride, operate both brake levers several times and confirm that the braking force feels normal before riding under power.
Regularly topping up the brake fluid and bleeding the brake system can effectively prevent issues such as reduced braking force or complete brake failure.
The brake fluid level can be observed through sight glass B. If the fluid level is below one-third of the sight glass, brake fluid must be topped up. Before opening the reservoir cap, clean any dust or debris from cap A to avoid contaminating the brake fluid.
Low brake fluid levels indicate possible brake pad wear or a hydraulic system leak. Check for worn brake pads and/or hydraulic system leaks. Use only new DOT4 brake fluid from a sealed container.
The steps for adding brake fluid are as follows:
- Remove the two screws on the reservoir cap and take off the reservoir cap and gasket.
- Add new DOT4 brake fluid.
- Check the cap gasket to ensure there is no wear or damage and that it is seated correctly.
- Reinstall the reservoir cap screws (torque 1 to 2N.m).
Note:
Do not allow brake fluid to contact painted surfaces as this may damage the paintwork. Brake fluid spilled onto plastic components can cause corrosion.
Be sure to place an absorbent cloth under the master cylinder reservoir before removing the cap.
Warning:
Before checking the fluid level, place your Surron upright on flat ground with the handlebars in the straight-ahead position to ensure the reservoir is level.
Every time you ride, check whether the brake pads are in normal condition. If the brake pad wear is uneven, the gap is uneven, the wear is severe, or the brake pads are heavily contaminated, the brake calipers must be adjusted and the brake pads replaced promptly.
Regularly check that the caliper pistons are functioning correctly and are clean.
Check the brake lines regularly for damage or leakage. If found, replace immediately.
Remove the brake caliper.
Use a 3mm hex key to remove the brake pad pin screw B and the pin retaining clip.
Remove the brake pads A and the return spring.
Use a tool to push the brake caliper piston inward so it is flush with the inner wall of the caliper.
Install the new pads in the reverse order of disassembly. The tightening torque of the retaining screw is 2.5N.m. After installing the new brake pads, press the brake lever several times until the contact point between the brake pads and the disc is stable.
Note:
When retracting the brake caliper piston, take care to avoid damaging the piston through improper technique.
It is recommended to bed in new brake pads or brake discs after replacement to ensure the disc and pad surfaces re-adapt and match correctly. Proper bedding will improve braking feel and reduce or eliminate brake noise.
Regularly check that the thickness of the brake disc working area is at least 2.5mm. If it is below this thickness, replace it immediately.
Brake discs must be flat and undeformed to ensure proper operation. Warped brake discs will cause irregular braking feel, reduced braking performance, and accelerated brake pad wear.
Place the Surron on a stand so that it is supported from the bottom bracket area. Rotate the wheel and observe the gap between the brake disc and brake pad to check for indentations or bends in the disc. Slight lateral deflection is acceptable as long as the disc is not contacting the brake pad. The Surron is equipped with a parking mechanism that should prevent the rear wheel from rolling when the rear brake parking lever is in the parked position. Please check the parking brake regularly.
Note:
Do not touch the braking surface of the brake disc or pad with bare hands, as the grease from your hands may reduce braking effectiveness.
The Surron is equipped with a parking brake, which can lock the rear wheel when the parking lever is in the parked position. Please check the parking brake regularly.
- Place the Surron on a stand so that the rear wheel is suspended in the air.
- Firmly apply and hold the rear brake lever.
- Engage the parking brake lever into the corresponding parking detent.
- Release the rear brake lever. The parking brake lever will remain fixed in the selected parking position.
- The parking brake will effectively lock the rear wheel. The braking force varies depending on the selected parking detent.
Note:
If the parking brake cannot effectively lock the rear wheel, please contact your authorized Surron dealer or service centre.
If the battery compartment has not been opened for an extended period, it must be opened and closed at least once within every 5 months.
Note:
5 months is a reference guideline. Please open and close the battery compartment cover at shorter intervals to ensure the gas struts remain in normal working condition.
The tightening torque values of screws and nuts on all important components of the Surron should be checked regularly.
Regularly check whether the cable ties, clamps, and retaining clips of all components are functioning normally.
